On Christmas Eve, Buddy is in his decorated house with his three-year-old daughter. He receives a job offer on the phone but hesitates because he doesn’t have a babysitter. As he talks on the phone, he has flashbacks of his memories with his wife Meredith, including their dream of owning their own business. He remembers the joyful moment when they found out they got a loan for a truck and their happiness is interrupted when Meredith goes into labor. They rush to the hospital but complications arise during childbirth and Buddy is asked to leave the room. He is called back to talk to Meredith, who is in a critical condition. He is brought back to the present moment when his phone call disconnects, and he decides to take the job, promising to bring his daughter with him. He holds his daughter while looking at a picture of Meredith, feeling slightly numb.
